About Us

Our mission is to serve as a real (physical space) and virtual (internet based) training center to develop a new generation of radical media producers - especially young women of color - who will have the vision/skills/resources/support needed to visualize, represent and document strides toward the liberation of all oppressed people.

proj-ectPRO:JECT facilitates access to new technologies as well as establishes new paradigms of politics and production. We, as radical cultural workers equip ourselves with technology as well as third world liberation struggle, feminist and civil rights movement perspectives while working on the core issues affecting our communities: exploitation, rising incarceration, militarization, environmental injustice, miseducation and misrepresentation of our youth, disrespect of our mothers, sisters and lovers.

    1. We refuse to work only for reform or to simply reclaim tools, systems, institutions, media and/or outlets that were never ours. We not only recognize the power of art, media and technology, we recognize their historic context in the oppression, surveillance and neutralization of our communities worldwide, as well as its use in strides toward liberation past and present.

    2. We can and will carry analysis, action and our cameras at the same time.

    3. Only through the training and support of young women of color as teachers, producers, healers, leaders and agents of change will our communities be able to fully visualize another world's possibilities. We are committed to sisters being present, in leadership roles, in learning and teaching capacities, as visionaries and as active participants in every step of the struggle.

    4. All oppressed people need to work together in solidarity to end all forms of oppression; those benefiting from any and all forms of privilege need to leverage their access toward the support of oppressed people. We work to make connections, build people's power and end oppression of all our communities.

    5. Liberation zones must be built, where critical thinking skills are practiced, critical analysis is built, historical references are considered and radical practice is encouraged and supported.
